A Taxing Woman, A Special Episode
Sunday Jun 17, 2018
Sunday Jun 17, 2018
Megan from The Shining 237 podcast joins the boys to talk about the exciting career of being a tax inspector in 1980s Japan. They discuss the underrated Neo-Noir, A Taxing Woman, by Juzo Itami from 1987. This movie is more than the story of being a badass tax inspector, it's about taking down the biggest criminals fillowing the book, taking time, and getting it done right. It's very funny and engaging and makes the job the tax inspector seem extremely fun.

Sunday Jun 10, 2018
Sunday Jun 10, 2018
Man, this episode covers a lot. Joel and Spencer are joined again by Lauren Wilford and Ryan Stevenson from Bright Wall/Dark Room. Kurosawa's underrated and truly relatable romance, One Wonderful Sunday, is the topic at hand. In the overall span of his career, One Wonderful Sunday, doesn't get the love or attention it should get. It's a deeply layered, complicated, and emotionally tense story of a young couple's only day they have together. The discussion goes into many territories from being poor and trying to get an apartment to having a partner with mental illness and the responsilbilites that comes along with it. Watch this movie. Just go out and Watch This MOVIE!

Toshiro (April 1, 1920 - December 24, 1997) would have been 98 this year. J-Dawg and Spencer dedicate this special episode to the mythical Toshiro Mifune. They go through their favorite Mifune characters, moments, fights, and discuss 2 of his non-Kurosawa films - Samurai 1: Musashi Miyamoto (1954) by Hiroshi Inagaki and Red Sun (1971) by Terence Young which co-starred Charles Fuckin Bronson.

Dodes'ka-den - Episode 39 - 1970
Saturday May 12, 2018
Saturday May 12, 2018
J Dawg and Spencer are at it again - drinkin', swappin', and back to normal afterwards...just like the 2 drunken workers from Kurosawa's 1970 Dodes'ka-den (and his COLOR debut). This was an interesting misstep in his career that led to his comeback and establishing his overall legacy. Martin Kessler of the Flixwise Canada and Flixwise podcasts help the boys through this messy, strange film by the Emperor. Spencer talks about Shelley Duvall again.
